To support forestry staff in converting their forests in a way that is close to nature, Trinkwasserwald e.V. organises environmental protection actions: filling in ditches and digging infiltration areas so that more rain remains in the forest; removing neophytes or competing vegetation to promote the growth of deciduous trees; making jules and nesting boxes where old tree stands have been lost.
The actions serve to promote climate-resilient mixed deciduous forests, their water-retention capacity or species richness – depending on what is most urgently needed on site.

Example: logging horse action

Working in a way that protects the soil with logging horses

One special option is a joint environmental protection campaign with your workforce and the use of logging horses, to help remove competing vegetation or bring timber out of the stand in a soil-friendly way. The horses place significantly less strain on the forest soil than heavy machinery and thus avoid soil compaction: the natural soil structure, rainwater storage capacity and habitat of important soil organisms are preserved, thereby strengthening the forest’s vitality.
