
Trees are true masters of adaptation and survival
Their growth is far more than an impressive natural phenomenon – it is the result of a long evolutionary development and the foundation for the stability of entire ecosystems.
🌱 A look into evolution
The history of trees goes back over 360 million years, to the Devonian period. Back then, the first plant life forms began to develop sturdy trunks and grow upwards – a decisive step in the Earth’s history. These early tree ancestors, such as Archaeopteris, already combined features of ferns and seed plants and laid the foundation for the forests we know today.
Over millions of years, trees adapted to changing climatic conditions, developed a wide variety of leaf, seed and bark forms – and conquered almost every habitat on Earth. They are thus silent witnesses to Earth’s history and key players for life on land.
🌱 Reproduction & propagation
For trees to form flowers and seeds, they must first reach a considerable size. Only then do they contribute to the preservation of their species by reproducing and dispersing their offspring – whether by wind, animals or water. In this way, they have secured their future for millions of years.
🌱 Resource uptake
With each growth spurt, trees expand their root systems, tap deeper soil layers and absorb more water and nutrients. At the same time, their canopy grows to use sunlight efficiently. This creates a cycle of energy, nutrients and growth that makes them stable, long-lived organisms.
🌱 Survival advantage
The larger a tree is, the better it can withstand environmental stress. Tall trees capture more light, are more resilient to wind, drought and competition, and provide habitat for countless species. Their size symbolises strength, adaptability and the will to live – qualities they have preserved over millions of years.
