Broad­leaf mixed forests have a signi­fi­cantly higher ground­water recharge than conife­rous forests, averaging around 800,000 litres of water per year and hectare across Germany, and of the highest quality, as the humus-rich soils filter the water excep­tio­nally well. As a result, compa­nies can give nature back the water they consume and thus reduce their water footprint by supporting Trinkwasserwald e.V. to reforest additional conife­rous forests and damaged areas with site-appro­priate broad­leaf trees. In this way, resources are created together, CO2 is bound, biodi­ver­sity is promoted and the drinking water supply is sustain­ably secured.
