Broadleaf mixed forests have a significantly higher groundwater recharge than coniferous forests, averaging around 800,000 litres of water per year and hectare across Germany, and of the highest quality, as the humus-rich soils filter the water exceptionally well. As a result, companies can give nature back the water they consume and thus reduce their water footprint by supporting Trinkwasserwald e.V. to reforest additional coniferous forests and damaged areas with site-appropriate broadleaf trees. In this way, resources are created together, CO2 is bound, biodiversity is promoted and the drinking water supply is sustainably secured.
