Deciduous mixed forests have a significantly higher groundwater recharge than coniferous forests, averaging between 500,000 and 1,200,000 litres of water per year and hectare in Germany, and of the highest quality, as the humus-rich soils filter the water exceptionally well. As a result, companies can give their water consumption back to nature and thus reduce their water footprint by supporting Trinkwasserwald e.V. to reforest additional coniferous forests and damaged areas with native deciduous trees. In this way, resources are created together, CO2 is bound, biodiversity is promoted and the drinking water supply is secured sustainably.
